ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men's water polo team began a busy weekend Friday night with a 14-7 victory at local rival Penn State Behrend, completing a season sweep of the Nittany Lions. The Golden Knights previously defeated the Lions 21-12 at home on September 26.

Gannon improved to 23-0 all-time against Penn State Behrend with a balanced attack. The Golden Knights led 4-1 after one quarter, 7-3 at halftime, and 10-6 after three quarters.

Richie DiLoreto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Greg Nelson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) were the only two Golden Knights with multiple-goal performances. DiLoreto led the way with a hat trick while Nelson chipped in two. Darren Stone (Johannesburg, South Africa/Glenwood Boys) recorded 18 blocks in the victory.

John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Ben Syme (Victoria, B.C./Claremont Secondary), Michael Piper (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake), Dmitriy Simonoff (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson), Kent Campos (Orange, Calif./Tustin), Jamison Anton (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), David Landry (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), Phil Myrick (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), and Rob Bullion (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) scored one goal each.

Gannon improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). The Golden Knights have won five of their last seven matches. Penn State Behrend dropped to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

Gannon continues a busy weekend Saturday, October 18 with three matches. The Golden Knights begin the day with a home contest against Washington & Jefferson at 9 a.m., before heading to the Bucknell Tournament for two evening matches.
