Zweegers and Masthoff Named to All-PSAC First Team
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s soccer team placed three players on the 2008 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division teams released Wednesday afternoon. Piet Zweegers (Mierlo, Holland/Augustmianum) and Loek Masthoff (Nieuwstadt, Netherlands/Trevianum) landed spots on the first team while Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) earned second-team honors.

Zweegers was one of five midfielders named to the first team. The junior recorded two goals, three assists, and seven points during his first season in a Gannon uniform. His first career goal was a game-winner against Wheeling Jesuit. The Mierlo, Holland native later added a second goal at Lock Haven. The Golden Knights were 3-0-1 in matches he recorded a point.

Masthoff was one of three defenders named to the All-PSAC Western Division first team. The junior was Gannon's best defender during his first season as a Golden Knight. He scored two goals on penalty kicks during an important PSAC match against Slippery Rock on October 25. Masthoff led a Gannon defense that allowed only 1.44 goals per match.

Latifi was Gannon’s leading scorer in 2008, recording 13 goals and 29 points. The sophomore forward ranked third among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) players in points per match (1.93), fourth in goals per match (0.87), and fourth in game-winning goals (4). He is 19th among all NCAA Division II players in points per match and 21st in goals per match.

The Erie, Pa., native continues to stockpile post-season awards after being named GLIAC Freshman of the Year last season. Latifi was also selected to the All-GLIAC second team as a true freshman. A 2008 Daktronics All-Atlantic region selection, he has nine game-winning goals in two collegiate seasons.

Latifi has recorded 21 goals, five assists, and 47 points during his first two collegiate seasons. He is two goals shy of entering Gannon’s all-time top 20.
