Golden Knights Out-Rebound Blue Knights 55-30
URBANA, Ohio - Two Golden Knights recorded double-doubles, 10 Golden Knights scored, and the entire team posted a 55-30 rebounding advantage as No. 10 Gannon rolled past Urbana 78-42 in men’s basketball action Tuesday evening.

Gannon, also ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II by the Sporting News and Basketball Times, was impressive during its season opener while Urbana continued a tough opening stretch during its transition to NCAA Division II. In the second year of the NCAA’s four-year transition process, the Blue Knights have opened the season with a pair of losses to traditional powerhouses Southern Indiana (93-54) and Gannon.

Tuesday’s contest remained relatively close for the first four minutes until Gannon took control with a 13-0 run. Four different players scored during the run that lasted three minutes and three seconds. Trailing 6-3, Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) started the run with a lay-up. Pierre Howard’s (Chicago, Ill./Bloom) lay-up at the 13:10 mark gave the Golden Knights a 16-6 lead.

Urbana cut the deficit to 16-11, before Gannon ended the half with a 20-6 run over the final 11:48. Goldcamp nearly missed a first-half double-double, recording 14 points and nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Not much changed in the second half. Gannon scored the first four points and eventually opened a 36-point lead (55-19) with 12:20 to play. The Golden Knights’ largest lead came at 77-35 with 1:10 remaining. Urbana then scored seven of the last eight points to account for the final 78-42 score.

Goldcamp and Dave Wilson (Vidalia, La./Vidalia) led Gannon with a pair of double-doubles. Goldcamp record his eighth double-double at Gannon with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. Wilson posted his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. His rebounding total tied a career-high and his scoring mark fell two points shy of his career-high. Howard completed Gannon’s group of double-digit scorers with 12 points.

Gannon shot 42.2 percent (27-64) from the field, 30 percent (3-10) from three-point range, and 75 percent (21-28) from the free throw line.

David Brown was the only Urbana player to reach double digits with 10 points off the bench. The Blue Knights were limited to 27.1 percent (16-59) from the floor, 21.1 percent (4-19) from behind the arc, and 54.5 percent (6-11) from the charity stripe.

Gannon improved to 1-0 with Tuesday’s season-opening victory. Urbana dropped to 0-2. The Golden Knights return to action Friday, November 28 when they host the 25th annual Gary Miller Classic. Daemen (N.Y.) and Goshen (Ind.) open the Thanksgiving tournament at 6 p.m. Gannon and Lake Erie battle in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
