Gannon's Hazlett Named PSAC Swimmer of the Week

Senior Seth Hazlett earned Gannon's first-ever PSAC Swimmer of the Week honor.

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Seth Hazlett (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Male Swimmer of the Week. The honor was the league’s first of the season and considered all events since the start of the 2008-09 season.

Hazlett has captured nine first-place finishes in four events this season. The senior has won the 100-yard butterfly three times, the 200-yard butterfly twice, and the 50-yard freestyle once. In addition, he has been a member of the winning 200-freestyle relay team twice and the 200-medley relay team once.

The Leechburg, Pa., native was a triple winner against Division I Canisius, against Wheeling Jesuit, and during a tri-meet with Edinboro and Allegheny.

Against Canisius, Hazlett won the 100 butterfly (52.51) and 200 butterfly (2:01.23) while being part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:27.98). Against Wheeling Jesuit, he won the 50 freestyle (22.50), the 100 butterfly (53.81), and the 200 butterfly (2:04.33). During the Edinboro/Allegheny tri-meet, Hazlett won the 100 butterfly (53.53) while being part of winning relay teams in the 200 medley (1:38.20) and 200 freestyle (1.29.29).

Gannon (6-1) returns to action December 4-6 at the Mid-Season Invitational hosted by The College of Wooster.

Jacob Tazzi

Wrestling

Tazzi helped lead the Gannon wrestling team to a ninth-place finish out of 22 teams at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis last weekend. The senior finished fourth in the 184-pound bracket. He opened the classic with a technical fall against Marcus Lopez of Carson Newman and a 7-2 victory over third-seeded Hiram Smith of Findlay. Tazzi entered the tournament as the sixth seed. On the second day, Tazzi lost to No. 2 seed Bryant Blanton of Newberry in the semifinals, but rebounded with a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Matt Alexander of Ohio Northern in the wrestlebacks. He then dropped a tight 3-2 decision in rematch against Smith in the third-place match. Tazzi finished 3-2 at the classic, moving his overall record to 15-9.

Brittany Tabron

Women's Basketball

Tabron led the Gannon women's basketball team to a perfect 3-0 record during the holiday break. All three victories came against PSAC East clubs – Shippensburg (72-45), Kutztown (98-59), and East Stroudsburg (88-56). The junior forward averaged 20 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 65.7 percent (23-35) from the field. In addition, she was perfect in 14 free throw attempts during the holiday break. Tabron scored at least 18 points in every game, posting a career-high 24 points against Kutztown. She recorded her 10^th career double-double and third in 2008-09 with 18 points and 10 rebounds against East Stroudsburg. Tabron has reached double digits in four consecutive games and seven of the last eight. She is shooting 66 percent (27-41) during the last four games and has shot at least 64 percent in each game during that stretch. At the free throw line, Tabron has made 17 consecutive free throws overall.
