Gannon Wrestling Team Remains Among Others Receiving Votes in Latest National Rankings

Head coach Don Henry's squad remained among Division II's best in the latest national rankings.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon wrestling team is among others receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 released Tuesday afternoon. It marks the second consecutive poll the Golden Knights have been among others receiving votes. The last poll was released on December 2.

Nebraska-Omaha remained No. 1 for the third consecutive poll, receiving seven of eight first-place votes. The Mavericks, who won three consecutive national titles from 2004-06, captured 158 points.

Newberry (S.C.) received the final first-place vote and ranked second with 143 points. Defending champion Nebraska-Kearney is third with 142 points. Minnesota State-Mankato (141) and Central Oklahoma (127) completed the top five.

Adams State (Colo.) (106), Western State (Colo.) (106), Upper Iowa (95), Mercyhurst (94), and Wisconsin-Parkside (92) rounded out the top 10.

Gannon was one of four teams listed among others receiving votes. The Golden Knights have competed three times since the last poll was released, dropping a 28-12 decision to Mercyhurst in their only dual match. The squad finished sixth at the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships and ninth at the Midwest Classic last weekend.

#A.J. Milanak# (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) leads the team in victories with a 21-8 record in the 141-pound weight class. Ethan Swope (133, 10-8), Corey Bowers (141, 5-4), Zack McKendree (157, 4-3), Brandon Monin (157, 15-8), Tony Petrella (174, 4-2), Jacob Tazzi (197, 15-9), and Frank McGrath (Hwt., 17-5) also have winning records. McGrath leads the team in pins (11).
