EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -
Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) won five matches on his way to winning the 133-pound championship at the East Stroudsburg Open Saturday.
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) also placed fourth as the Gannon University wrestling team competed against over 200 grapplers at ESU.
Bowers went 5-0 with two pins in taking the title in his weight class. He pinned Drexel’s Frank Climato at the 4:51 mark of the championship bout. It was the senior’s second title of the season, as he took first at the National Catholic Invitational November 7.
McKendree won five of seven contests on his way to a fourth place finish in the 157-pound division. He recorded three pinfalls before being pinned in the third-place match.
Sean Floor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Port Jervis) won four matches in the 149-pound tournament, while
Peter Mosher (White, Ga./Harrison),
John Fleming (Bethel Park, Pa./Lakeview), and
Bret Terry (Canal Winchester, Ohio/New Albany) each won three bouts on the day.
