ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s water polo team will enter this weekend’s Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship hosted by Bucknell University as the seventh seed. The CWPA released the seedings and weekend schedule Tuesday afternoon.
Navy will be the CWPA Southern Division’s top seed. Princeton, Bucknell, Johns Hopkins and George Washington completed the top five.
Gannon opens the championship event Friday, November 6 against Salem International. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. The Golden Knights swept the Tigers this season, winning 12-7 on the road and 13-6 at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.
Head coach Don Sherman’s squad brings a 10-10 overall record into the weekend. The Golden Knights finished second in the CWPA Southern Division, Western Region with a 6-2 conference mark.
Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) headlines the Gannon scoring attack with 44 goals and 25 assists.
John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) is second with 39 scores and 21 assists.
Michael Piper (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) has added 27 goals and 11 assists.
Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) has played the majority of minutes in goal, producing an 11.05 goals against average and .411 save percentage.
The Gannon-Salem International winner will play Princeton Saturday, November 7 at 10:15 a.m. The Golden Knights need to win their first two matches to qualify for the CWPA Eastern Championships hosted by MIT November 20-22.
