Gannon's Weaver Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Football Team

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Anthony Weaver (Erie, Pa./McDowell) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second team released Thursday afternoon.

Weaver has been one of Gannon’s most versatile athletes since joining the program in 2006. The senior has played in 38 career games during his four-year career, splitting time as a tailback and defensive back. He rushed for 320 yards on 99 career carries during time as a tailback.

The Erie, Pa., native was one of Gannon’s starting safeties as a sophomore in 2007, and moved back there in the fourth week this season. Weaver led the team in tackles (87) as a sophomore and has made 35 tackles in six games this season. In addition, he recorded five passes defended, one interception, one fumble recovery and one tackle for a loss this season. A Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete, Weaver has 132 career tackles during his 15 games as a defensive player. He has 71 solo stops and 61 assisted tackles.

Weaver has also been Gannon’s punt returner the last three seasons. He has 199 yards on 22 career returns and has a career-high 12.5 punt return average this season. Weaver has accumulated 587 career all-purpose yards, including 115 as a senior.

The 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II football teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released Tuesday, November 24.

The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his team.

Tiffany Crocker
Women's Basketball
Crocker led the No. 1 Gannon women's basketball team to its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship last weekend at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights won the tournament with victories over Edinboro (81-67), Kutztown (81-65) and California (Pa.) (77-68). Crocker was named PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games. She scored a career-high 27 points against Cal in the PSAC title game, including 22 in the second half. Crocker narrowly missed her second career double-double with nine assists. The Dublin, Ohio native was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Edinboro in the quarterfinals. Crocker had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Kutztown in the semifinals. In all, she dished out 22 assists compared to 10 turnovers in 114 minutes during the tourney.
Greg Radwan
Baseball
Radwan earned two of the Gannon baseball team's four victories last weekend in Winter Haven, Florida. The senior righthander went 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in two starts. He allowed only three earned runs while tossing two complete games. Radwan struck out 17 compared to only four walks. The Farnham, N.Y., native limited the opposition to a .226 average. He was even tougher in clutch situations, limited hitters to a .154 (4-26) average with runners on base. Radwan began the week with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale, striking out 10 and walking two. During a victory against Findlay, he allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.
