ERIE, Pa. - Former Gannon baseball student-athlete Jonathan Dziomba has signed a professional contract to play with the Grand Prairie Airhogs (Texas) of the American Association of Independent Baseball.

Dziomba made his professional baseball debut on Sunday, July 12, starting at second base and going 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, helping the Airhogs to a 7-1 victory over the Fort Worth Cats.

Dziomba was a three-year letterwinner (2006-08) for Gannon, before transferring to Mercyhurst College for his final collegiate season in 2009. He played shortstop and second base during his Gannon tenure and his name is scattered throughout the Gannon record books as one of the best to ever play at the school.

The Williamsville, N.Y., native ranks fifth all-time at Gannon in home runs (10), seventh in slugging percentage (.446) and seventh in triples (6) despite playing only three seasons.

Dziomba’s best season at Gannon came during his final season in 2008 when he was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honorable-mention squad. He led the team in average (.342), hits (52), runs (33), triples (5), home runs (6), RBI (38), slugging percentage (.586), and stolen bases (14). His five triples equaled the second-highest single-season total in school history. His home run total ranks third, RBI total fifth, total base benchmark eighth, and slugging percentage eighth.
