Gannon Announces 2009 Women's Lacrosse Recruiting Class

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon head women’s lacrosse coach Alicia Groveston has announced the addition of 15 student-athletes to the program. The 2009 recruiting class includes student-athletes from nine different states and all 15 newcomers will be true freshmen during the 2010 season.

Gannon concluded its first season as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 12-4 overall record and 5-3 PSAC Western Division mark. The Lady Knights were knocked out of post-season contention with a 19-16 overtime loss at No. 3 Lock Haven in the regular-season finale. The Bald Eagles tied the match with 16 seconds left in regulation and won it in overtime.

A brief capsule for each student-athlete in the 2009 recruiting class can be found below.

Natalie Bonnepart (San Jose, Calif./Gunderson High School)
~ 5-5, Freshman
~ Played for head coach Jessica Paige at Gunderson (Calif.) High School
~ Was a four-time all-conference selection, being named to the second team as a freshman, sophomore, and junior
~ Was a member of the honor roll

Megan Clumpus (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson S.S.)
~ 5-5, Freshman
~ Played for head coach Barb Boyes at Donald A. Wilson Secondary School
~ Served as a co-captain as a senior
~ Named Most Improved Player as a sophomore
~ Led Donald A. Wilson to two Provincial Cup finals (2006-2007) and a third-place finish in 2008
~ Was part of a team that advanced to the LOSSA finals twice (2006, 2008) and finished third in 2007
~ Played for a club team which won five provincial championships
~ Named to the honor roll every year
~ Received the Lacrosse Physical Education, Physical Education, Career Studies, and Communication Technology awards

Angela Coustillac (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor High School)
~ 5-7, Freshman
~ Played for head coach Jeff Huntington at Mentor (Ohio) High School
~ Was a four-year letterwinner
~ Led Mentor to the regional championship and Final Four as a junior
~ Was Mentor’s leading scorer as a senior
~ Named Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior

~ Received an Academic letter and Honors diploma

Caitlyn Fisher (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair High School)
~ 5-5, Freshman
~ Played for head coach Chris Haefele at Cy-Fair (Texas) High School
~ Was a four-year starter
~ Served as a varsity team captain the last two seasons
~ Named State Tournament Offensive MVP in 2007 and Aggieland Classic Offensive MVP in 2008
~ Named to the All-Star and Academic All-America teams as a junior
~ Was a two-time All-State selection, being selected as a junior and senior
~ Led Cy-Fair to back-to-back state finals in 2006 and 2007, and the state semifinals in 2009
~ Helped Cy-Fair advance to the city finals three times while winning the city championship as a freshman
~ Led Cy-Fair to the Richardson, Aggieland Classic, Mardi Gras, and Cy-Fair Fall Classic championships

Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster High School)
~ 5-6, Freshman
~ Played for head coach Kyle Barnes at Wooster (Ohio) High School
~ Was a four-year letterwinner
~ Served as a co-captain during her junior and senior campaigns
~ Led Wooster in goals (66) and assists (9) as a senior, breaking the school’s single-season record for goals
~ Broke the school’s career record for goals (173)
~ Scored a school-record seven goals in a match three times
~ Led Wooster to a 12-6 record as a senior, an improvement from the previous year’s mark of 4-12
~ Named Offensive Player of the Year as a junior after leading the team in goals (45) and assists (12)
~ Named Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore after leading the team in goals (48) and assists (11)
~ Selected to the Division I Ohio North All-League and the Great Lakes National teams as a sophomore
~ Named Rookie of the Year as a freshman after leading the team in assists (9)

Michelle Gaona (Granger, Ind./Penn High School)

Megan Herold (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson High School)

Lauren Hunt (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego High School)

~ Was a three-sport athlete, being a four-year varsity basketball player and three-year varsity volleyball player

Athletes of the Week
Greg Radwan
Baseball
Radwan earned two of the Gannon baseball team's four victories last weekend in Winter Haven, Florida. The senior righthander went 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in two starts. He allowed only three earned runs while tossing two complete games. Radwan struck out 17 compared to only four walks. The Farnham, N.Y., native limited the opposition to a .226 average. He was even tougher in clutch situations, limited hitters to a .154 (4-26) average with runners on base. Radwan began the week with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale, striking out 10 and walking two. During a victory against Findlay, he allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.
Tiffany Crocker
Women's Basketball
Crocker led the No. 1 Gannon women's basketball team to its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship last weekend at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights won the tournament with victories over Edinboro (81-67), Kutztown (81-65) and California (Pa.) (77-68). Crocker was named PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games. She scored a career-high 27 points against Cal in the PSAC title game, including 22 in the second half. Crocker narrowly missed her second career double-double with nine assists. The Dublin, Ohio native was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Edinboro in the quarterfinals. Crocker had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Kutztown in the semifinals. In all, she dished out 22 assists compared to 10 turnovers in 114 minutes during the tourney.
