#5 Gannon Wrestling Takes Down Duquesne 32-12 Friday Night

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The fifth-ranked Gannon wrestling team beat Division I Duquesne 32-12 Friday night at the Palumbo Center. John Fleming (Bethel Park, Pa./Lakeview), Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area), and Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine’s Prep) each recorded pinfalls in the win. 

125-pounder Fleming got the night rolling for the Golden Knights, pinning Taylor Wilde at the 3:12 mark of their match. Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) followed with an 11-5 decision over Jake Swink in the 133-pound bout. A.J. Milanak (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) then took a 3-2 win in the 141-pound contest to give GU a 12-0 advantage. 

McKendree pinned Alex Martinez at the 2:09 mark of their 157-pound match, clinching the win for the Knights. Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) then won a technical fall in the 174-pound grapple. Adam Farrell (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) won 9-3 in the 197-pound match and McGrath closed the night with a pin of Nadeen Farah in the heavyweight clash. 

Gannon is now 3-3 in dual action, while Duquesne is 2-3 this season. The Knights next travel across town for a tri-meet at Mercyhurst Saturday, January 30. GU faces #2 Newberry College at 11 a.m. and then takes on the Lakers at 3 p.m. in a make-up of the postponed War at the Shore. Complete results from Friday’s Gannon-Duquesne match are available here.

Tiffany Crocker
Women's Basketball
Crocker led the No. 1 Gannon women's basketball team to its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship last weekend at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights won the tournament with victories over Edinboro (81-67), Kutztown (81-65) and California (Pa.) (77-68). Crocker was named PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games. She scored a career-high 27 points against Cal in the PSAC title game, including 22 in the second half. Crocker narrowly missed her second career double-double with nine assists. The Dublin, Ohio native was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Edinboro in the quarterfinals. Crocker had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Kutztown in the semifinals. In all, she dished out 22 assists compared to 10 turnovers in 114 minutes during the tourney.
Greg Radwan
Baseball
Radwan earned two of the Gannon baseball team's four victories last weekend in Winter Haven, Florida. The senior righthander went 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in two starts. He allowed only three earned runs while tossing two complete games. Radwan struck out 17 compared to only four walks. The Farnham, N.Y., native limited the opposition to a .226 average. He was even tougher in clutch situations, limited hitters to a .154 (4-26) average with runners on base. Radwan began the week with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale, striking out 10 and walking two. During a victory against Findlay, he allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.
