MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Gannon swimming teams continued competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships Friday with 10 events. After two days, the Lady Knights are fifth out of 13 teams and the men stand sixth out of seven teams. Cumberland Valley High School is the site of the meet.

For the women, the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Rachel Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Ellie Hess (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell), Jackie Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) swam a 1:36.33, placing third. Rachel Rzymek finished fifth in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 24.03 in the event. Sam Bluhm (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) posted a seventh place finish in the 500 free. She swam a 5:08.04 in the race. Rzymek and Bluhm’s times each set ‘B’ qualifying times for nationals.

On the men’s side, the 200 free relay took fifth. Jason Jamieson (Cape Town, South Africa/Rondebosch), Greg Nelson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor), Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African Collage), and John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) combined to swim a 1:26.44 in the race. Krakowski recorded a 21.55 time in the 50 free, good enough for fifth place. Nelson set a school record in the preliminary 500 freestyle, only to have Dovale match it in the finals. Both swam the event in 4:44.58 seconds.

West Chester leads both the men’s and women’s fields in the overall team standings. The teams will compete in 14 more events Saturday, February 20, as part of the four-day meet. Complete results from Friday are available here.
