ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's
Tanner Furno (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week and fourth time this season.
Furno averaged nine points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists during three games last week against Lake Erie, Edinboro and Indiana (Pa.). The true freshman shot 76.9 percent (10-13) from the field and 87.5 percent (7-8) from the free throw line during the week. He has reached double digits in scoring during four of the last five games after accomplishing the feat only once in the first 20 contests.
The Columbus, Ohio native began the week with 10 points against Lake Erie. Furno was nearly perfect against the Storm, hitting all four field goal attempts and both free throw attempts.
Furno followed that performance with 10 points at Edinboro, making 3-of-4 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws. The freshman forward ended the week with seven points at eighth-ranked Indiana (Pa.). He grabbed at least five rebounds in all three games last week.
Gannon (11-14, 6-6) returns to action Wednesday, February 24 against rival Mercyhurst at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The contest can be heard live on Jet Radio 1400 and via the Internet at
