#5 Gannon Wrestling Stings Waynesburg 39-3 Wednesday Night

ERIE, Pa. - The fifth-ranked Gannon wrestling team beat Waynesburg 39-3 Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center. A.J. Milanak (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area), Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley), and Chris Daniels (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) each recorded pinfalls for the Golden Knights. 

John Fleming (Bethel Park, Pa./Lakeview) started the night with a 2-0 decision win in the 125-pound contest. Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took a forfeit as Waynesburg did not have a 133-pound entry. Milanak then pinned Abdul Yusuff at the 1:54 mark of their 141-pound bout to put GU ahead 15-0. Ted Hoag (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area), and Bret Terry (Canal Winchester, Ohio/New Albany) strung together three straight wins to clinch the dual for the Knights. 

Petrella pinned Robert Schultz in their 184-pound match and Daniels took a pinfall victory over Matt Zimmerman in the 197-pound bout. Heavyweight Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine’s Prep) finished the event with a 12-7 decision win. 

GU is now 5-3 in dual action, while Waynesburg dropped to 6-9. Gannon travels to Ashland (Ohio) University for a tri-meet Saturday, February 6. The Knights face East Stroudsburg at 10 a.m. and then take on Ashland at noon. Complete results from Wednesday’s Waynesburg-Gannon match are available here.

Tiffany Crocker
Women's Basketball
Crocker led the No. 1 Gannon women's basketball team to its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship last weekend at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights won the tournament with victories over Edinboro (81-67), Kutztown (81-65) and California (Pa.) (77-68). Crocker was named PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games. She scored a career-high 27 points against Cal in the PSAC title game, including 22 in the second half. Crocker narrowly missed her second career double-double with nine assists. The Dublin, Ohio native was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Edinboro in the quarterfinals. Crocker had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Kutztown in the semifinals. In all, she dished out 22 assists compared to 10 turnovers in 114 minutes during the tourney.
Greg Radwan
Baseball
Radwan earned two of the Gannon baseball team's four victories last weekend in Winter Haven, Florida. The senior righthander went 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in two starts. He allowed only three earned runs while tossing two complete games. Radwan struck out 17 compared to only four walks. The Farnham, N.Y., native limited the opposition to a .226 average. He was even tougher in clutch situations, limited hitters to a .154 (4-26) average with runners on base. Radwan began the week with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale, striking out 10 and walking two. During a victory against Findlay, he allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.
