ERIE, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Gannon wrestling team travels to Ashland (Ohio) for a tri-meet Saturday, February 6. The Golden Knights square off with East Stroudsburg at 10 a.m. and then the host AU at noon.

GU is ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top 20 poll. Gannon (5-3) stands fourth in the East regional rankings.

Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) is fifth in the individual rankings for the heavyweight division. Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) ranks fifth in the 133-pound class and Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) is seventh as a 157-pounder. Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) is ranked eighth in the 149-pound division.

AU is 4-9 in dual action this season and East Stroudsburg is 8-7. ESU is among others receiving votes in the NWCA Top 20 poll and ranks seventh in the East region. Stroudsburg’s Ken Monarque is tabbed fourth in the 174-pound individual rankings for the East. Gannon beat Ashland 25-9 last season, as McElhaney and McGrath each won matches for the Knights.

Zach Boedicker

Football

Boedicker led the Gannon football team to a fifth consecutive victory dating back to last season with a 26-20 win over Lake Erie in the season opener last Thursday. The senior quarterback accounted for 83 percent of Gannon’s offense, producing 287 yards of total offense. He recorded his fourth career 100-yard rushing game, running for 109 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Only two quarterbacks in school history have recorded more 100-yard rushing performances. Through the air, Boedicker threw only six incomplete passes in 23 attempts, as well as having no turnovers. Trailing 14-13 early in the fourth quarter, Boedicker had one-yard touchdown runs on back-to-back drives to push Gannon in front 26-14. He moved into Gannon’s all-time top five in passing during the opener, finishing the game with 2,413 career passing yards.

Kara Cullen

Women's Volleyball

Kara Cullen helped the Gannon volleyball team post a 2-1 start last season at the Davis & Elkins tournament. The Lady Knights defeated Davis & Elkins and Texas A&M Kingsville. The junior middle blocker had 25 kills without an attacking error during the two victories. Against Davis & Elkins, she had 12 kills in 16 touches. For the week, Cullen averaged 3.30 kills and 1.40 blocks per set. She recorded 33 of the teams 121 kills, leading the team in blocking (14 total blocks, 4 solo blocks). Cullen produced a .433 hitting percentage during the weekend tournament.
