#8 Gannon Wrestling Wins at Ashland 35-6 Saturday Afternoon

ASHLAND, Ohio - The eighth-ranked Gannon wrestling team defeated Ashland (Ohio) University 35-6 Saturday afternoon. John Fleming (Bethel Park, Pa./Lakeview) and Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) each won by pin for GU at Kates Gymnasium. 

Fleming pinned Brandon Davis in the 125-pound match to open the action. The fall came at the 1:55 mark to put the Golden Knights up 6-0 early. Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) won a 9-5 decision in the 133-pound contest and then 141-pounder A.J. Milanak (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) took a 5-4 decision for a 12-0 Gannon edge. 

McElhaney followed with a pin of T.J. Rigel in their 149-pound bout. McElhaney won at the 2:46 mark. After an AU pinfall, Gannon answered with five consecutive wins to end the day. Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area), Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley), and Chris Boyd (Chase City, Va./Randolph Henry) each won via decision, while Bret Terry (Canal Winchester, Ohio/New Albany) and Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine’s Prep) took major decisions for the Knights. 

Gannon improved to 6-3 in dual meets. AU dropped to 4-10. GU next hosts Shippensburg Friday, February 12, at 7 p.m. Complete results from Saturday’s Gannon-AU match are available here.

Tiffany Crocker
Women's Basketball
Crocker led the No. 1 Gannon women's basketball team to its first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship last weekend at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights won the tournament with victories over Edinboro (81-67), Kutztown (81-65) and California (Pa.) (77-68). Crocker was named PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games. She scored a career-high 27 points against Cal in the PSAC title game, including 22 in the second half. Crocker narrowly missed her second career double-double with nine assists. The Dublin, Ohio native was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Edinboro in the quarterfinals. Crocker had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Kutztown in the semifinals. In all, she dished out 22 assists compared to 10 turnovers in 114 minutes during the tourney.
Greg Radwan
Baseball
Radwan earned two of the Gannon baseball team's four victories last weekend in Winter Haven, Florida. The senior righthander went 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in two starts. He allowed only three earned runs while tossing two complete games. Radwan struck out 17 compared to only four walks. The Farnham, N.Y., native limited the opposition to a .226 average. He was even tougher in clutch situations, limited hitters to a .154 (4-26) average with runners on base. Radwan began the week with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale, striking out 10 and walking two. During a victory against Findlay, he allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.
