EDINBORO, Pa. - The Gannon softball team ended the regular-season on a high note. The Lady Knights swept the season finale Tuesday afternoon at post-season bound Edinboro, earning the sweep by scores of 3-1 and 9-2.

In the opener, Edinboro jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Fighting Scots manufactured a run with a single, a stolen base, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

Gannon tied the contest on Kelly Trace's (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) bases-loaded single in the top of the third inning. The Lady Knights then won the game on Kels Fedell's (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning. The bomb was Fedell's seventh of the season.

Katie Killian (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) led the Gannon offense in game one with a 3-for-4 showing, scoring once. Trace, Fedell and Sam Scott (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) added two hits each.

Megan Dragon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood), the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Pitcher of the Week, improved to 11-8 with the victory. The true freshman allowed one run on three hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

In the nightcap, Gannon exploded early with five runs in the top of the first inning. Kristin Schalk (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) drove in Casee Piquet (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) with the first run, ripping an RBI triple to right center.

Fedell drove in the second run with an RBI single, before Tiffany Joyce (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) drilled a three-run homer to left center. It was her second career home run with both coming this season.

Gannon extended the lead to 8-0 with three more runs in the third inning. Two runs scored on an error, before a third crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Joyce gave Gannon a 9-0 advantage with an RBI double in the fourth. Edinboro scored twice in the bottom of the frame to account for the final 9-2 score.

Piquet went 3-for-4 with a run in the lead-off spot. Joyce finished 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Toni Caruso (Buffalo, N.Y./Maryvale) chipped in two hits.

Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) captured the victory in her final collegiate game, surrendering two unearned runs on four hits in seven innings. The senior struck out nine and walked two.

Gannon concluded its season with an 18-21 overall record and 4-12 PSAC West mark. Edinboro completed the regular season with a 19-16 overall record and 7-9 conference mark.
