ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s lacrosse team remained eighth for the fifth consecutive week in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 10 regular-season poll released Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post (N.Y.) is the No. 1 team in the country for the second consecutive week. The Pioneers own a 16-1 record. Lock Haven (16-1), Adelphi (16-1), Limestone (S.C.) (18-1) and West Chester (17-1) completed the top five.
Stonehill (Mass.) (13-3), Mercyhurst (16-2), Gannon (12-7), Merrimack (Mass.) (12-3) and Molloy (N.Y.) (15-2) rounded out the top 10.
Gannon concluded its season with a 12-7 record after a strong run in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Lady Knights opened the tournament with a convincing 15-9 victory at rival Mercyhurst in the quarterfinals, before bowing at West Chester 19-18 in the semifinals. The squad was unable to maintain a three-goal advantage in the final seven minutes against the Golden Rams.
Eight Lady Knights reached double digits in points.
Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) led the team in goals (77) and points (95).
Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) topped the team in assists (67) while adding 17 goals for 84 points. The two seniors broke Gannon’s career records for goals and assists this season.
Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) completed Gannon’s group of 80-point scorers. She had 68 goals, 12 assists and 80 points.
Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) started 18 of 19 matches in goal, producing a 10.29 goals against average and .484 save percentage. The senior concluded her career as Gannon’s all-time saves leader with 619.
Gannon recorded 12 victories for the second consecutive season, reaching double digits in wins for the sixth straight campaign. The Lady Knights have never posted a losing record during their 15-year history.
