ERIE, Pa. - Gannon has released its 2010 women’s soccer schedule which includes a season-opening contest at NCAA Division I Cleveland State and a new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) scheduling format.

The PSAC will no longer have two divisions in 2010. Instead, the conference will move all 15 teams into one division. Each team will play 14 conference matches, playing one match against every team. The top eight teams qualify for the PSAC Quarterfinals Tuesday, November 2 with the top four teams serving as the hosts. The top remaining team will then host the PSAC Final Four November 5-6.

Gannon kicks off the 2010 season Friday, August 27 at Cleveland State. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. It will mark the program’s first regular-season match against an NCAA Division I program since Gannon dropped a 3-1 home decision to St. Bonaventure in 1992. The Lady Knights are 6-10 all-time against NCAA Division I programs, but all 16 matches were played between 1987 and 1992.

Head coach Colin Petersen’s squad kicks off the home portion of its schedule Friday, September 3 against Davis & Elkins. The home opener at Gannon University Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. A brief two-match homestand concludes Monday, September 6 with a Labor Day special against West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.

Fourteen of the final 15 matches come against PSAC opponents. A non-conference contest at Wheeling Jesuit October 19 is the only non-PSAC match during that stretch.

Gannon will face all five teams that played in the 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. A rematch of the first-round battle against Indiana (Pa.) is scheduled for Saturday, October 9 at home. The Crimson Hawks and Lady Knights fought to a scoreless tie in the first round, before IUP advanced based on penalty kicks.

Gannon also hosts 2009 NCAA Tournament teams West Virginia Wesleyan, California (Pa.) (September 15) and West Chester (October 23). The Lady Knights play at Kutztown Saturday, September 11. The Golden Bears were the region’s second seed last year.

Both local rivalry matches will take place on the road in 2010. The Lady Knights play at Edinboro Wednesday, September 22 and at Mercyhurst in the regular-season finale Friday, October 29.

Gannon has posted back-to-back winning records for the first time since the program recorded four consecutive winning seasons from 1996-99. The Lady Knights were 11-6-2 in 2008 and 10-7-2 in 2009. The program capped the 2009 campaign with its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
