ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) and
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) have been named to the 2010
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 baseball teams released Friday afternoon. Hoffman was named to the first team while Radwan landed a spot on the second team.
Hoffman earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season and now moves to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. A Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete, Hoffman owns a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Mathematics. The junior first baseman led Gannon in average (.349), hits (44), doubles (11), RBI (26), total bases (61), slugging percentage (.484) and on-base percentage (.461).
The West Middlesex, Pa., native hit .338 (26-77) with runners on base and .364 (16-44) with runners in scoring position. Hoffman recorded 13 multiple-hit games and a team-high seven multiple-RBI games. He produced a seven-game hitting streak April 10-23. Hoffman hit .426 during the final 17 games, recording a hit in 14 of those contests.
Radwan was selected to the second team, earning Academic All-District honors for the first time. Also a PSAC Scholar-Athlete, Radwan owns a 3.69 cumulative GPA as an Early Childhood/Elementary Education major. The senior ranks third among PSAC pitchers in earned run average (3.05), fourth in strikeouts looking (23), sixth in overall strikeouts (61), seventh in innings pitched (62.0) and eighth in opposing batting average (.240). He ranks 42nd among all NCAA Division II pitchers in walks allowed per nine innings (1.6), 77th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.84), 79th in strikeouts per nine innings (8.85) and 88th in earned run average.
The Farnham, N.Y., native limited opponents to a .240 overall average and a .225 (20-89) average with runners on base. Offensively, Radwan served as Gannon’s designated hitter. He hit .278 with a .330 slugging percentage and .341 on-base percentage. Radwan hit .318 (21-66) with runners on base and .308 (12-39) with runners in scoring position. He had four multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games. The multifaceted player had a team-high 10 game hitting streak March 27-April 9.
The 2010
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II baseball teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released Tuesday, May 25.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his team.
