Gannon Women's Lacrosse Team Ranked Eighth in Final IWLCA Poll

The Gannon women's lacrosse team was ranked eighth in the last six IWLCA polls.

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s lacrosse team is ranked eighth in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 10 poll released Friday afternoon.

Adelphi finished as the No. 1 team in the country after winning its second consecutive national championship. The Panthers posted a 19-1 record. C.W. Post (16-2), West Chester (19-2), Lock Haven (16-2) and Limestone (S.C.) (18-2) completed the top five.

Stonehill (Mass.) (13-4), Mercyhurst (16-2), Gannon (12-7), Merrimack (Mass.) (12-3) and Molloy (N.Y.) (15-2) rounded out the top 10.

Gannon concluded its season with a 12-7 record after a strong run in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Lady Knights opened the tournament with a convincing 15-9 victory at rival Mercyhurst in the quarterfinals, before bowing at national finalist West Chester 19-18 in the semifinals. The squad was unable to maintain a three-goal advantage in the final seven minutes against the Golden Rams.

Eight Lady Knights reached double digits in points. Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) led the team in goals (77) and points (95). Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) topped the team in assists (67) while adding 17 goals for 84 points. The two seniors broke Gannon’s career records for goals and assists this season.

Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) completed Gannon’s group of 80-point scorers. She had 68 goals, 12 assists and 80 points. Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) started 18 of 19 matches in goal, producing a 10.29 goals against average and .484 save percentage. The senior concluded her career as Gannon’s all-time saves leader with 619.

Gannon recorded 12 victories for the second consecutive season, reaching double digits in wins for the sixth straight campaign. The Lady Knights have never posted a losing record during their 15-year history.

Katie Joseph
Women's Swimming and Diving
Joseph was a five-time winner at last weekend’s Indiana (Pa.) Invitational, helping the Gannon women’s swim team split a pair of dual match-ups against IUP and Bloomsburg. The true freshman won the 100-yard freestyle (54.04) for the seventh time in eight attempts, posting a PSAC-qualifying time every time. She won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.47) for the fourth time this season while producing her seventh conference-qualifying time during the event in eight attempts. Joseph also finished third in the 200 IM (2:17.48) during her first attempt of the year. The McDonald, Ohio, native was part of three relay teams that won titles. Her 200-yard freestyle relay team captured its sixth title in as many attempts, her 400-yard freestyle relay team won its sixth title in eight tries and her 800-yard freestyle relay team captured its third title in as many attempts. Joseph has won 15 individual titles and been part of 18 relay titles this season. She has produced 23 PSAC-qualifying times and four NCAA “B” cut times this season.
Nick Wolhaupter
Men's Swimming and Diving
Wolhaupter was a quadruple-winner at last weekend’s Indiana (Pa.) Invitational, helping the Gannon men’s swim team split a pair of dual match-ups against IUP and Bloomsburg. The true freshman won the 50-yard freestyle (22.03) for the third time in six attempts, producing a PSAC-qualifying time for the fifth time. He won the 100-yard freestyle (48.53) for the fifth time in seven attempts, recording a conference-qualifying time five times. Wolhaupter then finished third in the 100-yard butterfly while producing his fifth PSAC-qualifying time during that event in six attempts. The Watertown, Wis., native was part of two relay teams that won titles. His 200-yard freestyle relay team won its third title in eight attempts and his 400-yard medley relay team captured its first championship in three tries. Wolhaupter helped his 400-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay teams finish second. He has won 12 individual titles and been part of nine relay titles this season. Wolhaupter has produced 23 PSAC-qualifying times this season.
