ERIE, Pa. - Gannon has released its 2010 men’s soccer schedule which includes a new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) scheduling format.

The PSAC will no longer have two divisions in 2010. Instead, the conference will move all 10 teams into one division. Each team will play nine conference matches, playing one contest against every team. The top four teams qualify for the PSAC Semifinals Wednesday, November 3 with the top two teams serving as the hosts. The top remaining team will then host the PSAC Championship Saturday, November 6.

Gannon kicks off the 2010 season Labor Day weekend at the Le Moyne Tournament. The Golden Knights will play Bloomsfield (N.J.) Saturday, September 4 at 12 noon and NYIT Monday, September 6 at 11 a.m. The squad has never played NYIT and posted a 3-0 victory during its only meeting against Bloomsfield in 2000.

Head coach Rob van Rheenen’s squad kicks off the home portion of its schedule Wednesday, September 8 against West Virginia Wesleyan. The home opener at Gannon University Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Five of the final seven matches in September will be played at Gannon University Field. The September slate features home matches against California (Pa.) (September 15), Wheeling Jesuit (September 21), Lake Erie (September 25) and Bloomsburg (September 29).

Gannon will face three of the four teams that played in the 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. The first two contests come at home against Slippery Rock (October 13) and Millersville (October 22), before concluding the regular-season at crosstown rival and 2009 post-season participant Mercyhurst (October 30).

The Golden Knights come down the stretch run with an even home-to-road ratio. The month of October features five road matches and four home affairs.

Gannon finished the 2009 campaign with a 6-10-2 overall record and 3-5 PSAC mark. For the complete 2010 men’s soccer schedule, please click here.
