Gannon Men's Basketball Team Hosts Rival Mercyhurst In Critical PSAC Game Wednesday Night at the 'Mill

The Gannon men's basketball team hopes to avenge its loss to California last Saturday with a bounce-back effort against Mercyhurst.
The Gannon men's basketball team concludes a brief two-game homestand Wednesday, January 26 against rival Mercyhurst at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Ticket windows open at 4:30 p.m. as the women's game kicks off the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for non-Gannon students and senior citizens. All Gannon students are admitted free of charge by showing their school ID at the gate.

Gannon dropped to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with a 72-70 loss against California (Pa.) last Saturday. It marked the Golden Knights' first loss in nine home games this season and snapped a 10-game home win streak dating back to last season. The program is 28-3 in the next home game following a home loss since 1998-99.

Head coach John T. Reilly will reach a coaching milestone with a victory. He enters the contest with a 99-62 record in six seasons at Gannon, needing one more win to become the fifth men's basketball coach in school history to record 100 career victories. He is 331-207 in 18 seasons overall at Gannon and Brescia.

Mercyhurst rides a season-high five-game win streak into Wednesday's rivalry game. The Lakers moved to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC West with a 71-56 victory at Slippery Rock last Saturday. The squad owns a scoring margin of 17 points during its current win streak. Head coach Gary Manchel's squad sits atop the Western Division standings, holding a one-game lead over defending champion Indiana (Pa.).

Gannon has won five of the last six meetings against Mercyhurst and leads the all-time series 45-15. The Golden Knights have won eight of the last nine games played at the Hammermill Center where they owned a 25-5 advantage.
