NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Gannon women's and men's swim teams broke four meet records while winning 11 of 22 events en route to a pair of team titles Friday evening at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet. It represented the third consecutive championship for both teams at the relay competition.
Gannon won the combined team title with 236 points. Edinboro (210), Westminster (188), Saint Vincent (104), Penn State Altoona (46) and Chatham (12) completed the combined team standings.
Head coach
Nathan Walters' program captured the men's title with 122 points. The Golden Knights were followed by Edinboro (102), Westminster (88), Saint Vincent (38) and Penn State Altoona (32).
Gannon also cruised to a championship on the women's side with 114 points. Edinboro (108), Westminster (100), Saint Vincent (66), Penn State Altoona (14) and Chatham (12) completed the women's standings.
Jared Griffard (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene),
Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and
Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va./York) highlighted the men's success as triple-winners.
Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African College), Maxwell Herath (Hilliard, Ohio/St. Charles Prep),
Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and
Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) were double-winners.
In all, 12 different Golden Knights took part in Gannon's six relay titles. The 3X100 yard butterfly relay kicked off the night in grand fashion.
Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek), Wolhaupter and Chase set a relay meet record with a time of two minutes and 37.98 seconds. The mark was nearly three seconds better than the previous record.
Another men's relay meet record fell during the 400-yard medley.
Kyle Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Griffard, Chase and Dovale beat the clock in three minutes and 39.79 seconds. The foursome shattered the old record by over seven seconds.
Jacqueline Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell),
Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) and Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) accounted for Gannon's triple-winners on the women's side. Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Steph Graham (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) all completed the night as double-winners.
Ten different Lady Knights were part of winning relay teams. Much like the men, the women's squad was able to set a pair of records. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Charlene Lichota (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier), Christina Ruggiero (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart), Joseph and Bosy posted the record-setting time of eight minutes and 7.98 seconds. It set a new record by less than a second.
The second women's record fell by only 0.46 second in the 400-yard IM. Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus), Harriger, Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) and Graham narrowly touched the wall before the old mark in four minutes and 15.70 seconds.

Both Gannon swimming and diving teams return to action Saturday, October 29 by hosting a tri-meet at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The women's team hosts Assumption (Mass.) while the men's squad hosts Assumption (Mass.) and Lake Erie. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
