Alex DelPiombo (Monroe, Mich. / St. Mary's Catholic Central) has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a recipient of the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship. The award provides the DelPiombo the opportunity to attend the 2011 AVCA Annual Convention in San Antionio, Texas.
The program, now in its third year of existence, allows college students interested in pursuing a coaching career the opportunity to attend the AVCA's national convention. In addition to the educational opportunities the convention provides, recipients will have the opportunity to interact and network with successful college coaches from all backgrounds and levels.
“The committee is extremely excited about this year's class,” said Jaime Gordon, head volleyball coach at Morehead State University, and chair of the AVCA Coaches 4 Coaches Committee. “This was a very difficult process considering the level of talent and passion of the applicant pool. They represent a broad cross section of backgrounds and experiences, and we are eager to welcome them into the great experience that is the AVCA Convention.”
DelPiombo will be joined by Craig Boller (Michigan), Kyle Exline (Carthage), Patricia Gandolfo (West Florida), Nicole Klingsporn (Marquette), Kylen McCulley (Wayne State), Andrea Nolan (C.W. Post) and Jordan Reeder (Cornell).
“This award is very exciting for Alex, who has been a standout leader in our program ever since she arrived at Gannon,” said head coach
Matt Darling. “She possesses all the qualities which make a great coach, and I'm proud and excited that she's receiving this award to help launch her coaching career. She'll be a great coach, and I look forward to following her career.”
The 2011 AVCA Annual Convention will take place December 14-18 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
“I'm very excited about this award, and looking forward to learning more about the coaching opportunities in the volleyball world after I finish my playing career at Gannon,” said DelPiombo.
