ERIE, Pa. – Gannon's
Adam Blazek (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
Gannon players have now been awarded PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Week honors 15 times during the last three seasons. More recently, Golden Knights have captured eight of the last 11 freshman of the week awards dating back to last season.
Blazek helped Gannon earn a split last weekend at the 28th annual Gary Miller Classic as the Golden Knights fell to eventual tournament champion Daemen 67-65 and defeated NCAA Division II transitional member Roberts Wesleyan 86-61. The freshman point guard averaged 16 points, 4.5 assists, three steals and 2.5 rebounds during two games.
The Erie, Pa., native erupted for a season-high 23 points against Roberts Wesleyan. Blazek scored 19 points during the first half as Gannon raced to a 45-26 halftime lead, hitting 7-of-9 field goals and 5-of-5 three-pointers. Following a jumper 33 seconds into the contest, he proceeded to score the team's first eight points. Blazek was 4-of-4 from three-point range while scoring 14 of Gannon's first 16 points, resulting in a 16-2 lead 3:59 into the contest.
Blazek has reached double digits in scoring three times during his first four collegiate games, shooting 60 percent or better in three of those contests.
Gannon (2-2, 1-1) returns to action Saturday, December 3 at Millersville. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Golden Knights then conclude a PSAC weekend road trip Sunday, December 4 at West Chester. Sunday's tip-off is also slated for 3 p.m.
