ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's Randy Colling (Arcade, N.Y./Pioneer) has been named a 2011 Preseason All-America first-team selection by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) and the “D2vsNAIA Senior Bowl” selection committee it was announced Friday afternoon. Colling was previously named to the 2011 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Division II Preseason Football All-America second team on June 22.

Colling is one of 28 defensive players overall and one of only four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) defensive players named to either the first or second team.

The Arcade, N.Y., native has been named to the All-PSAC first team and the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super One Region second team each of the last two seasons. Colling recorded 71 tackles (31 solo, 41 assisted), 12 tackles for a loss (66 yards), eight sacks (61 yards), two forced fumbles, two blocked kicks and one fumble recovery during 11 starting assignments last season. The senior defensive lineman ranked sixth among PSAC players in sacks, seventh in forced fumbles per game (0.18), 10th in tackles for a loss per game (1.09) and 25th in tackles per game (6.5). He ranked 25th among all NCAA Division II players in sacks.

Colling ranks fourth all-time at Gannon with 16 career sacks. His eight sacks last season equaled the third-highest single-season total in school history, falling three shy of the school record.

The “D2vsNAIA Senior Bowl” is a post-season all-star game showcasing the talent of senior players from the NCAA Division II and the NAIA football levels. The bowl game is presented by the CDFL and will be held December 3, 2011 in the New York City metro area.

Player selections for this showcase game begin with the announcement of the “D2vsNAIA Senior Bowl” All-America teams. These teams recognize the football achievements of senior players who are entering their final season on the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels. The “D2vsNAIA Senior Bowl” selection committee will review player performance throughout the 2011 season and will invite 40 players per level in a challenge-game format between these two levels.

The “D2vsNAIA Senior Bowl” player invitations begin in September and conclude with a November 15 commitment deadline. Players selected will partake in practices, NFL combine testing, an awards banquet and a showcase game with professional scouts in attendance.

It is anticipated that the game will be televised on the Fox College Sports Network. The official Web site for the game is http://www.d2vsnaiabowl.com.

Gannon finished the 2010 campaign with a 6-5 record for the second consecutive season. The Golden Knights produced noteworthy victories against rival Mercyhurst (14-10), 2010 PSAC champion Shippensburg (22-19), traditional conference power Indiana (Pa.) (45-17) and Slippery Rock (24-20).

Head coach Jim Kiernan's squad kicks off the 2011 season Thursday, September 1 at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Lake Erie. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The contest can be heard live on Jet Radio 1400 and via the Internet at http://www.wergfm.com.
