ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men's basketball team leaves the city of Erie for the first time in two weeks Saturday, January 28 when it travels to Lock Haven for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. The men's contest can be heard live locally on Jet Radio 1400.
Saturday's contest against a winless opponent appears to be a must-win for Gannon, who is currently fighting for its post-season life with 10 games remaining. The Golden Knights are tied with Edinboro for sixth place in the eight-team Western Division with a 7-6 conference slate. The squad is only one game out of the fourth and final post-season spot currently held by both California (Pa.) and Clarion. Indiana (Pa.) (11-2), Mercyhurst (10-3) and Slippery Rock (9-4) make up the top three spots.
Gannon (9-8, 7-6 PSAC) has dropped four of its last five games after starting the season 8-4. The Golden Knights have dropped their last three road games and is 2-4 away from the Hammermill Center this season.
Darrell Blanton (Cleveland, Ohio/Euclid) and
Adam Blazek (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) continue to be the straws that stir the pot after the duo captured PSAC Western Division Player and Freshman of the Week Monday afternoon. Blanton and Blazek have accounted for 60 percent (123-205) of Gannon's scoring during the last three games.
Blanton recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against Slippery Rock Wednesday night. The junior forward has averaged 20.1 points and 8.8 rebounds during the last eight contests.
Blazek poured in a season-high 23 points against the Rock. The freshman guard is averaging 19 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals during the last three games.
Lock Haven is looking for its first victory of the season, owning an 0-16 overall record and 0-13 PSAC mark. The Bald Eagles have dropped 35 consecutive games dating back to last season. The program's last victory was a 54-51 home decision against Bloomsburg on December 4, 2010.
Gannon is a perfect 19-0 all-time against Lock Haven, including a 4-0 mark at the Thomas Field House. Three of those four games have been close with differences of five (76-71), eight (88-80) and three points (51-48).
