Gannon Men's Basketball Program Adds Pair of Recruits During Early Signing Period

The Gannon men's basketball program's size increased by two with the addition of Dogan and Domenick.
ERIE, Pa. – Gannon head men's basketball coach John T. Reilly has announced the addition of Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) and Brandon Domenick (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) to the program. Both student-athletes have committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at Gannon during the fall of 2013.

Dogan enters his senior high school season with 1,491 career points. An all-state first-team selection as a junior and two-time all-region first-team honoree, he needs only 24 points to set the West Middlesex scoring record and 478 points to set the Mercer County scoring record. Dogan was named to the Erie Times-News All-District 10 team in 2011-12.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard led West Middlesex to the District 10 Class A and District 1-A championships last season en route to the PIAA quarterfinals. Dogan's scoring numbers have steadily increased every year. He was named to the all-region second team after averaging 13.8 points per game as a freshman. Dogan then led Mercer County in scoring as a sophomore with 21.4 points per game. As a junior last year, he led District 10 with 22.5 points per game.

A two-sport athlete, Dogan was named to the all-region first team as a golfer this fall. Academically, he has been a four-year member of the Principal's honor roll with a 3.75 cumulative grade point average. Dogan was a FBLA state qualifier in business math as a sophomore.

Domenick has started games during three consecutive seasons at New Castle, receiving the starting nod 65 times. That stretch included 28 starts during each of the last two seasons. He is a two-time all-conference second-team selection and three-year team captain. Domenick's career accolades include back-to-back all-tournament honors at the New Castle Tip-Off Tournament.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound guard has hit 137 career three-pointers, converting 43 percent of his career attempts from behind the arc. Domenick has averaged 9.1 points and six assists during his career. Academically, he has been a member of the honor roll every year.

Domenick has helped New Castle advance to back-to-back PIAA semifinals. The Hurricanes won the WPIAL AAA championship and finished 27-1 in 2011-12. New Castle finished 20-8 overall and was the WPIAL AAA runner-up during Domenick's sophomore campaign.

Gannon is 4-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 NCAA Division II Elite Eight squad rolled off nine consecutive wins to begin the season. The Golden Knights won the 29th annual Gary Miller Classic championship last weekend with victories against NCAA Division II provisional members Roberts Wesleyan (66-45) and Daemen (65-46). The defensive effort resulted in consecutive opponents being held under 50 points for the first time since January of 1992. Gannon has now won 11 championships during the last 14 Gary Miller Classics and its first since 2010.
