ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men's basketball team begins the final week of the regular season Wednesday, February 22 at Slippery Rock. Game time at the Morrow Field House is scheduled for 8 p.m. Both games of the doubleheader can be heard live locally on Jet Radio 1400.

Gannon (13-11, 11-9 PSAC) has won three of its last four games following an 85-35 home victory against Lock Haven last Saturday. The streak started with road victories at Edinboro (77-73 in overtime) and Clarion (91-80) before suffering a tough 68-65 loss to rival Mercyhurst.

Head coach John T. Reilly's club remains in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division postseason race as it enters the final week of the regular season. The Golden Knights are one game behind California (Pa.) for the final playoff spot and two games behind Slippery Rock with two games remaining.

Gannon can clinch a playoff spot with two different scenarios. However, the Golden Knights need to win at Slippery Rock Wednesday night and at Indiana (Pa.) Saturday night in both scenarios. If Gannon wins its last two games, it can advance to the postseason if either California (Pa.) or Slippery Rock loses their last two games. Cal hosts Clarion Wednesday and travels to Edinboro Saturday. Slippery Rock hosts Gannon Wednesday and Clarion Saturday. One more Gannon loss will eliminate the Golden Knights from postseason contention.

Slippery Rock (16-8, 13-7) is trying to secure a postseason berth of its own. The Rock sits in third place in the PSAC Western Division with a 13-7 conference mark. It is only one game behind Mercyhurst for the final quarterfinal home game, but it is also only one game ahead of fourth-place California (Pa.). Slippery Rock can clinch a PSAC Tournament spot Wednesday night with a victory against Gannon.

Head coach Kevin Reynolds' squad saw its four-game win streak snapped last Saturday with a 66-63 loss at 17th-ranked Indiana (Pa.). Slippery Rock has won seven of its last 10 contests. Both games against the PSAC Western Division regular-season champion IUP have been close, falling 63-62 at home and 66-63 on the road.

The Gannon-Slippery Rock series has been relatively even over the last four seasons with Gannon holding a slight 4-3 edge since the 2008-09 campaign. The clubs have split two of the last three season series. Gannon swept two games in 2009-10. The Golden Knights lead the all-time series 18-10.

Slippery Rock is attempting to beat Gannon twice in a season for only the second time in school history after winning at the Hammermill Center 70-63 on January 25. The other sweep came during the 1992-93 campaign.
