Gannon Women's Basketball Team Up to 18th in National Poll

The Gannon women's basketball team is ranked nationally for the seventh straight week.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's basketball team moved up in the national poll for the second straight week, sitting 18th in the latest USA Today ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Lady Knights have ranked in the top 25 seven straight weeks. 

The top five was unchanged for the second straight week. University of California - San Diego held on to the top spot by a unanimous decision with a perfect 26-0 record. Edinboro, the only other undefeated team in the country, was second with a 24-0 record. Wayne State (Neb.) (24-2) was third followed by Clayton State (Ga.) (24-2) and Ashland (24-1).

Bentley (Mass.) (23-3) and Metro State (Colo.) (23-2) retained their spots from last week at sixth and seventh respectively. Alaska - Anchorage (24-4) was eighth, followed by Northeastern State (Okla.) (22-3) and University of South Carolina - Aiken (21-3) to finish the top 10. 

A total of three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams appear in the rankings, with all hailing from the Western Division. Edinboro is second, followed by Gannon at 18th and Indiana (Pa.) at 24th. 

Other Atlantic region teams that rank in the top 25 or received votes include Johnson C. Smith (47), Bloomsburg (27) and Shaw (10).

The Lady Knights close out the 2011-12 regular season with a two-game road trip. Gannon takes on Slippery Rock on Wednesday and Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday.
