Gannon Women's Basketball Team Ranked 21st in Final National Poll

The Gannon women's basketball team finished the season ranked 21st among NCAA Division II women's basketball teams.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's basketball team finished the 2011-12 season ranked 21st in the country according to the USA Today ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Lady Knights were ranked in the top 25 this season a total of 10 consecutive weeks.

Atlantic Region Champion and eventual NCAA Division II National Champion, Shaw (29-6) jumped to the top of the rankings after previously sitting outside the top 25. National runner-up Ashland (33-2) was second after seeing their 33-game winning streak snapped in the title game. 

Bentley (Mass.) (31-4) was third followed by Wayne State (Neb) (23-3) and Rollins (Fla.) (28-6) to round out the top five.

Pittsburg State (Kan.) (27-6), University of Alaska-Anchorage (30-5), Lander (S.C.) (24-8), Edinboro (Pa.) (30-2) and University of California-San Diego (30-3) completed the top ten teams. 

A total of three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams appeared in the final top 25 with all three hailing from the Western Division. Edinboro was ninth, followed by Gannon (22-7) at 21st and Indiana (Pa.) (23-7) at 24th. 

Other Atlantic Region teams that received votes included Bloomsburg (15), and Johnson C. Smith (N.C.) (7). The Lady Knights defeated Johnson C. Smith in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
