Gannon Football Program Adds 11 Student-Athletes During First Official Signing Day

The Gannon football program announced the first 11 student-athletes of its 2013 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon.
ERIE, Pa. – Gannon head football coach Brad Rzyczycki announced the addition of 11 student-athletes to the program Wednesday afternoon during the first official day high school student-athletes are allowed to commit to college football programs per NCAA rules. All 11 have committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at Gannon during the fall of 2013.

The latest recruiting class will help offset the graduation of 11 seniors. In all, 48 letterwinners and 16 players who started at least five games last season return in 2013. The program will feature nine seniors during the upcoming season.

"I am extremely excited with the initial 11 student-athletes signed in the 2013 class,” said Rzyczycki. “We identified specific needs and addressed our roster with 11 high-IQ football student-athletes who are a perfect fit at Gannon University.”

Today's signees have a combined 3.4 cumulative grade-point average. The group includes six from Ohio, two from North Catolina, one from Pennsylvania, one from New York and one from California. The position breakdown includes nine defensive players and two offensive players.

Gannon concluded the 2012 season with a 3-8 overall record, winning two of its last three games. The only setback during that final run was a 38-35 loss to eventual PSAC champion Indiana (Pa.) in a game the Crimson Hawks scored the winning touchdown on a fourth-and-one play with 3:16 to play.

The complete list of today's signees can be found below. Additional recruits and complete bios for all newcomers will be released upon the completion of this year's recruiting class.

Gannon is tentatively scheduled to open the 2013 season Thursday, September 5 at Lake Erie. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule begins Saturday, September 14 against West Chester at Gannon University Field. Gannon opens the PSAC schedule with two home games that include a September 21 date against Slippery Rock.
