Gannon's Scott Named to Capital One Academic All-America Softball Team

Senior Samantha Scott is the 21st Gannon student-athlete to be named an Academic All-American in 2012-13.


ERIE, Pa. – Gannon's Samantha Scott (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) has been named to the Capital One Academic Softball All-America second team released Wednesday afternoon.

Scott earned Academic All-America honors for the first time after previously landing a spot on the academic all-district first team with a 3.61 cumulative grade point average. The Legal Studies major has been named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete and received the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award every year during her collegiate career. The senior shortstop hit .410 with a .705 slugging percentage and a .475 on-base percentage through 36 games. Her 2013 resume included 34 runs, nine doubles, nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 86 total bases. She had 14 multiple-hit games and nine multiple-RBI games.

The New Baltimore, Mich., native ranked fourth among PSAC players in batting average, sixth in slugging percentage, seventh in home runs and 10th in total bases. Scott ranked 51st among all NCAA Division II players in home runs per game (0.25), 56th in slugging percentage and 78th in batting average. She produced the 10th-highest single-season batting average in school history.

The 2013 Capital One Academic All-America softball teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
