ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon acrobatics and tumbling team won five heats during its home debut in front of over 500 fans Saturday night at the Hammermill Center. But Fairmont State was able to spoil the Lady Knights' opening night with a 275.905-262.345 victory.
Gannon got off on the right foot before the home crowd, winning two of the four heats in the opening compulsory event. The Lady Knights won the compulsory pyramid heat with a score of 9.8 compared to the Fighting Falcons' 9.64 mark. The team of
Haili Menard (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood),
Kayla Telego (Knox, Pa./Keystone),
Amanda Till (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon),
Alexa Maldonado (Dundee, Ore./Newberg) and
Paisley Moses (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) followed with a 9.75-9.6 win in the compulsory toss heat.
Unfortunately, Fairmont State's two victories in the compulsory acro and tumbling heats came by wider margins and enabled the visitors to win the overall compulsory event 37.6-35.85.
Gannon picked up its third victory in the opening heat of the pyramid event.

Jessica Page (Eden, N.Y./Eden),
Erin Harris (Rochester, N.Y./Rush Henrietta), Maldonado, Menard,
Haley Garelick (Valencia, Calif./William S. Hart) and Till contributed the pyramid win with a 9.85 score. The Lady Knights beat out the Fighting Falcons' 9.75 total.

Chelsea Shaw's squad finished strong with two victories in the fifth tumbling event. The duo of Menard and Page raised their hand during the first heat with a 9.35 judgment. Menard then added another win during the six-element tumbling heat, sporting a 9.55 mark.
Gannon dropped to 0-2 during its inaugural campaign. Fairmont State improved to 1-0 during its first action of the season. The Lady Knights return to action Friday, February 14 at Adrian (Mich.). The dual meet is scheduled for 5 p.m.
