Gannon Men’s Water Polo Doubles Up Salem International to Secure First CWPA Win, 22-11

The Short Story: The Gannon men's water polo team captured its first win in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division-West Region action. The Golden Knights doubled up host Salem International for a 22-11 win Sunday afternoon at the SIU Pool. Senior Raz Yuval (Kibbutz Yagur, Israel/Carmel Zvulun) led the Golden Knights with five goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Nick Fagen (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) collected a career-high 12 blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied at four after the opening quarter, the Gannon Golden Knights were able to take a two-goal lead in the second quarter with four goals, 8-6. The Golden Knights erupted for eight goals in the third quarter for a 16-8 lead, as the Tigers were only able to generate two tallies. The Golden Knights sealed the win in the fourth quarter, piling on six more for the 22-11 win.
- The Golden Knights' 22 goals were the most since a 22-14 victory against Monmouth Oct. 26, 2013.
- Yuval led the Golden Knights for the third match this season with five goals, matching a season match-high. Senior Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) and junior Adam Wolf (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each scored four goals.
- Freshmen Nick Williams (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island) and Gilberto Millan (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) along with sophomore Marko Sadikovic (Stara Zeleznicka Konlonija, Yugoslavia / Gimnazije) each added two goals.
- Sophomore Michael Squeglia (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep), senior Jake Ouellette (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) and freshman Kyle Rodewald (Carona Del Mar, Calif. / Carona Del Mar) each recorded a tally. Rodewald scored his first career goal as a Golden Knight.
- Fagen registered 12 blocks to set a career match-high. Fagen's previous personal-best came in a 10-block performance last season Oct. 19, against Salem International in a 23-9 win.
