The Short Story: The Gannon women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches to NCAA Division I opponents Hartwick and Bucknell at the Hammermill Center Saturday. The Lady Knights fell to Hartwick, 19-10, to open the day before dropping a 14-10 loss to Bucknell. Freshman

HOW IT HAPPENED- Hartwick dominated the opening quarter to take an 8-0 lead. Six of the Hawks' eight first-quarter tallies came in the opening four minutes and 32 seconds.
- Gannon answered right back in the second quarter with five goals. Only 14 seconds ticked off the clock in the second frame, as Barr put the Lady Knights on the board. Lazenby added a tally in the opening minute.
- The Hawks disrupted the Lady Knights' stretch of goals with a tally to push their lead to 9-2 with 5:49 remaining in the quarter. In a span of 26 seconds, Lazenby scored her second straight before being answered just 18 seconds later followed by another Lady Knights' strike by Barr.
- In the final two minutes, the teams exchanged a goal each 11 seconds apart. The Hawks took an 11-5 lead over the Lady Knights into the break.

Alison Cooney (Erie, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) and sophomore
Christine Uht (Erie, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) scored consecutive goals to open the first minute of the third to cut into the Hawks' lead 11-7. It was the closest the Lady Knights came to within the Hawks.
- From there, the Hawks tallied five straight goals to close the third quarter for a 16-7 advantage.
- The two teams exchanged three goals each in the fourth quarter, as the Hawks sealed the 19-10 victory. The Lady Knights' goals came from Barr, freshman
Francesca Williamson (Chicago, Ill. / Mother McAuley Liberal Arts) and Uht.
MATCH NOTES- Barr and Uht each scored three goals in the loss. Lazenby tallied two goals followed by Cooney and Williamson with a score each.
- Senior
Janelle McDaniels (Edwardsville, Pa. / Wyoming Valley West) recorded a team-best three assists followed by Cooney with two. McDaniels also led the Lady Knights with five steals with Lazenby posting four takeaways.
- Sophomore
Emily Rodriguez (Erie, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) registered four blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED- Bucknell earned a 3-1 lead in the opening five minutes of the match before tacking on two goals in the closing minute for a 5-1 lead to end the first quarter. Gannon's lone tally came courtesy of Cooney.
- The Bison kept the pressure on Gannon to begin the second quarter with two more goals to push their lead to 7-1. Freshman
Kristi Howe (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln Way Central) ended the Bison stretch of four unanswered goals with a tally three minutes and 23 seconds into the second frame. Before heading into the break, the Bison scored two more goals to extend their lead to 9-2.
- To open the third quarter, the Bison scored a goal before the Lady Knights tallied back-to-back goals from Barr and Lazenby to cut into Bucknell's 10-4 lead. In the final 4:14 of the third, each squad scored two goals, as the Bison doubled up on the Lady Knights, 12-6.
- Lazenby's goal with just under two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter brought the Lady Knights to within five of the Bison for the second time in the second half.
- The Lady Knights scored two goals in the final two minutes of play, including Lazenby's third in the contest with five seconds remaining in the match, but it was too late. Despite the late GU tallies, Bucknell managed to seal the 14-10 victory.
MATCH NOTES- Barr led the Lady Knights' scoring in consecutive games with four goals. Barr brought her total in the two matches to seven goals against the pair of NCAA Division I opponents.
- Lazenby also added three goals to compile five goals on the day. Cooney recorded two goals followed by one from Howe.
- Junior
Rachel Bednarek (Windermere, Fla. / Olympia) registered three assists along with three steals.
- Barr posted a team-high five steals. Bednarek was joined by Williamson and Cooney with three steals each.

- Prior to the match, the Lady Knights honored both McDaniels and
Claire Smith (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) on Senior Night.

UP NEXTGannon returns to action at the Indiana Tournament April 18-19, with two matches against NCAA Division I opponents. The Lady Knights open the two-day event Saturday against No. 15 Michigan at 5:20 p.m. The next day, the Lady Knights face Notre Dame (Ohio) at 10:20 a.m. before returning in the afternoon to play host and 16th nationally-ranked Indiana at 2 p.m.
