Manczka's Overtime Goal Pushes Gannon Women's Soccer Team Past Edinboro in PSAC Quarterfinals (Video)

  • The Short Story: Junior Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) placed a perfect shot into the upper left corner of the net from 35 yards out with 31 seconds left in the first overtime to pushed the Gannon women's soccer team past Edinboro 1-0 Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal match at Sox Harrison Stadium. The shot also propelled the Lady Knights into the PSAC semifinals for the second consecutive season and third time in the last four years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro out-shot Gannon 6-2 during the first half, but neither team was able to dent the scoreboard during a scoreless opening 45 minutes.
  • The Lady Knights turned the tables and controlled the second half, out-shooting the Fighting Scots 12-6.
  • After failing to get a shot off during the final 22 minutes of the first half, Gannon ripped off four shots during the opening 14 minutes of the second half.
  • The Lady Knights almost took the lead in the 74th minute, but had one shot sail wide and another hit the crossbar.
  • Gannon scored the game-winner on the only shot by either team during the extra session. True freshman Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) tapped the ball to Manczka in the middle where she placed a perfect shot from 35 yards out into the upper, left corner and set off a celebration.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon out-shot Edinboro 15-12, but the Fighting Scots had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Both teams were whistled for 14 fouls each.
  • Differ recorded the shutout between the pipes with five saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon won a postseason match in overtime for the first time in program history.
  • The Lady Knights posted an overtime victory for the first time since a 1-0 regular-season win against Mansfield at McConnell Family Stadium on September 6, 2014. It was their first road overtime victory since a 2-1 win at Edinboro on September 4, 2014.
  • Gannon moved into the PSAC semifinals for the second consecutive season and third time in the last four years.
  • The Lady Knights are making their sixth consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance.
  • Gannon avenged last year's postseason when Edinboro posted a 3-1 victory in the PSAC semifinals and 2-1 overtime win in the NCAA Division II Tournament second round. Both matches were played at McConnell Family Stadium.
