ERIE, Pa. - Junior Kendall Mahony's 18 kills and .400 hitting percentage led No. 3 seed Pitt-Johnstown to a 3-1 victory against No. 7 Indiana (Pa.) Friday night during the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Volleyball Semifinals hosted by Gannon University. The Mountain Cats advanced to the finals by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 26-28 and 25-22.
Mahoney led a UPJ attack that included a pair of Mountain Cats with double-digit kills. Redshirt junior Marissa Erminio added 12 kills. Redshirt junior Allison Mondorff ran the offense with 41 assists and 14 digs. Junior Devan Orr headlined a defensive core with 36 digs.
Three days after posting a 3-1 upset victory at No. 2 seed Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.) dropped two close sets battling for a 28-26 win in the third set. Junior Natalie Cignetiit topped the Crimson Hawks with 18 kills and 21 digs. Seniors Kaitlyn Palmer and Lily McWilliams followed with 17 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior Lindsay Moeller called the shots with 38 assists. Four Crimson Hawks reached double digits in digs.
Pitt-Johnstown improved to 24-8 overall while Indiana (Pa.) dropped to 20-11. The Mountain Cats will face the winner of Friday's second semifinal match between No. 4 seed California (Pa.) and No. 1 seed Gannon in Saturday's championship match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
