Gannon Women's Soccer Postseason Run Ends One Match Shy of Title Shot

  • The Short Story: The 13th-ranked Kutztown women's soccer team scored a goal during each half and posted a 2-0 victory against Gannon Friday afternoon in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinals hosted by West Chester University. The Golden Bears move on to face East Stroudsburg in Sunday's championship match at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kutztown gained the upper hand early by scoring on the second shot of the match by either team. Maddie Mohr tallied her 10th goal of the season, scoring unassisted 10:10 into the contest.
  • Gannon was held without a shot during the first 24 minutes, but ripped two shots off in the span of 135 seconds after that. However, Kutztown goalkeeper Jenna Bracken turned away both attempts.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the final 34 minutes and 50 seconds of the first half as the Golden Bears went to the intermission with a 1-0 advantage.
  • Gannon's best opportunity to tie the contest came in the 54th minute, but PSAC Freshman of the Year Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) blasted a shot off the post as Kutztown held onto its 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Bears added an insurance tally less than nine minutes later when Alaina Curry scored her seventh goal of the season unassisted.
  • Gannon was able to manage only two more shots the rest of the way with Bracken making both saves.

  • Kutztown produced advantages in shots (16-8), corner kicks (8-1) and fouls (8-5).
  • Senior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario /Notre Dame C.S.S.) recorded seven saves between the pipes.
