Gannon Men's Swimming Team Finishes Fourth at PSAC Championships For Fourth Consecutive Year

  • Event: 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Swimming Championships (Graham Aquatic Center  - York, Pa.)
  • Competing Teams: Bloomsburg, Clarion, Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), Gannon, Shippensburg and West Chester.
  • Result: Gannon finished fourth out of seven teams with 321 points.
  • The Short Story: The Gannon men's 400-yard freestyle relay team earned all-conference status with a third-place finish Sunday to highlight the final day of the 2016 PSAC Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pennsylvania. The Golden Knights capped a successful weekend with a fourth-place overall finish.

  • 400-Yard Freestyle Relay Team - The foursome of junior Drew Wolter (Clarksville, Md./Atholton), freshman Allan Collins (East Amherst, N.Y./Canisius), sophomore Michael Weiser (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) and senior Denys Fedorchenko (Zaporizhia, Ukraine/Zaporizkiy Collegium #98) finished third with a time of three minutes and 6.25 seconds.

EVENT NOTES
  • The PSAC Championships concluded Sunday with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard freestyle relay.
  • Sunday was the final of four days of championship action.
  • Fedorchenko earned his fourth All-PSAC honor of the weekend, including his third as a member of a relay team. In addition to previously helping the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams record all-conference times, he also earned All-PSAC status individually in the 200-yard butterfly.
  • Gannon earned 13 All-PSAC honors, recorded three NCAA "B" cut times and broke three school records at the PSAC Championships.
  • The Golden Knights finished in fourth place for the fourth consecutive season, marking their fifth straight top-five finish.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon swimmers who recorded an NCAA "B" cut at any time throughout the 2015-16 season will now await word on possible invitations to the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships March 9-12 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • The national championship selections are scheduled to be announced Wednesday, February 24.
