GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first three innings were played Thursday afternoon. After two scoreless frames, Gannon plated four runs during a rainy third inning. Sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower) drove home the first run with an RBI double to left center.
  • Senior Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) later cleared the bases with a two-out, three-run double to right center that gave the Lady Knights a 4-0 lead.
  • Gumbita retired the Golden Bears during the bottom of the inning, before the game was suspended due to rain.
  • The action resumed Friday morning in the top of the fourth inning and Gannon wasted little time scoring again. Freshman Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) led off with an infield single, before moving to third on a passed ball and ground-out. She then scored on a two-out RBI single by sophomore Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) through the right side.
  • Kutztown refused to go away despite a 5-0 deficit. The Golden Bears began the comeback with three two-out runs during the bottom of the fourth.
  • After a scoreless fifth, Kutztown erupted for seven runs on six hits in the sixth. The big blow was a grand slam that snapped a 5-5 tie.
  • Junior Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) singled in the seventh, but a game-ending double play brought an end to the Gannon season.

GAME NOTES
  • Archambeault went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
  • Salerno finished 2-for-4 with one RBI as the lead-off hitter.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Friday's action started approximately 20 minutes late as ground crews attempted to make the field playable after rain soaked the area throughout Thursday.
  • The game was resumed under cloudy skies and a temperature of 48 degrees.
  • Kutztown is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
  • Archambeault and Salerno recorded their sixth and fourth multiple-hit games of the season, respectively.
  • Gannon faced regionally-ranked opponents during all three PSAC Tournament games. After defeating top-ranked West Chester, the Lady Knights fell to fourth-ranked Bloomsburg and sixth-ranked Kutztown.
  • Archambeault had at least three RBIs in the same game for the second time in 2016.
  • Gumbita passed Megan Smith (2000-03) and moved into eighth place all-time at Gannon with her 325th career strikeout.
