Gannon Tops NCAA Division II Football Plays for Second Consecutive Week (Video)

ERIE, Pa. - Another week and another run by Gannon junior Marc Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) that has the entire country talking. Jones' 52-yard touchdown run that included a leap over a defender was featured at No. 1 in this week's NCAA Division II Football Plays of the Week released Wednesday afternoon. It was the second consecutive week that the Golden Knights were listed No. 1 among the nation's top plays.

In all, Jones and his Gannon teammates have been listed among the NCAA Division II Football Plays of the Week three times during the last four weeks. This week's top five can be view at http://www.ncaa.com/video/football/2017-10-18/dii-college-football-top-plays-week-seven.

The video clip courtesy of the Westmoreland Sports Network featured the Gannon offensive line opening a huge hole up the middle, before Jones races into the secondary. As the Seton Hill safety comes up to make the tackle, Jones leaps over the defender and lands on his feet before racing into the end zone for a 52-yard touchdown. The score was his fourth of the first half as the Golden Knights proceeded to post a 76-31 victory last Saturday at Seton Hill.

The highlight-reel run was part of another record-setting day that saw the Gannon football team break the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record for team rushing yards (567). The Golden Knights also broke school records for points in the second half (43), points in the third quarter (29) and total points (76).

Gannon (3-4, 2-2) returns to action Saturday, October 21 against California (Pa.) at McConnell Family Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 12 noon. The Vulcans have been listed among others receiving votes in last two American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Polls after being ranked among the top 25 all season.
