Mendez returns as one of Gannon’s starting pitchers for the second consecutive season in 2017 … transferred from Lansing (Mich.) Community College prior to the 2015-16 academic year … enters his senior campaign 13th all-time at Gannon since 2000 in victories (7).

2016: Started 11 games … went 7-3 with a 3.76 earned run average and three complete games … led Gannon in victories, ERA, games started, innings pitched (67.0) and strikeouts (42) … limited the opposition to a .233 overall average, .217 mark (26-120) with runners on base and .248 average (33-133) with the bases empty … held left-handers to a .206 average (13-63) and right-handers to a .242 mark (46-190) … ranked 10th among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) pitchers in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.93) … recorded the third-highest single-season victory total in program history … made his Gannon debut with a complete-game effort during a 7-1 victory at Limestone, scattering four hits with five strikeouts … began his Gannon career with five straight victories, allowing only one run each time … named PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Week on April 25 after allowed only three hits without allowing an earned run in six innings during a 2-1 home victory against Clarion … holding a 2-1 lead in the fourth, he stranded the tying run at third with a strikeout … after Clarion put a pair of runners on base in the fifth, he escaped again with an inning-ending pop-up … struck out a season-high six hitters during victories against Indiana (Pa.) and Slippery Rock … surrendered one run or less in a game six times.

At Lansing CC: Played for head coach Andy Merchant … named to the All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) second team … landed a spot on the Dean’s List.

High School: Played for head coach and father Joe Mendez at Lansing Eastern (Mich.) High School … was a four-year varsity letterwinner … earned all-conference and all-area honors … named to the LSJ Dream Team … selected to the All-Area Academic Team … helped Lansing Eastern win the district title in 2010, representing the program’s first since 1997 … graduated as Lansing Eastern’s Salutatorian.

Personal: Sports Management and Marketing major … is the son of Joe … has two sisters and one brother.
