Gannon's Wrestling All-Americans (Through 2024-25 Season)

Thirty-six Gannon University wrestlers have earned Division II All-America honors. Sean Haight was the first, finishing seventh at 126 in 1987-88. Dave Kruszewski and John Oldach captured All-America honors in 1989-90. Oldach was fifth at 190, while Kruszewski finished eighth at 134. Tom Boyd earned All-America status in 1990-91, placing sixth at 134. In 1998-99, two Golden Knights became All-Americans. Todd Proper finished in sixth place and Lantz Schwabenbauer placed eighth. In 2000-01, Proper became Gannon’s first three-time All-American when he finished third. Schwabenbauer earned All-America honors for the second time with a third-place finish at 165. Doug Joseph became Gannon’s seventh All-American by winning the national championship at 197. At the 2002 National Championships, Lyneil Mitchell and Brendan Bosko earned their first All-America awards. In 2002-03, Mitchell became a two-time All-American at heavyweight and R.J. Paterniti earned his first All-America award with a sixth-place finish at 141. Paterniti eventually earned All-America honors three times, adding awards in 2005 and 2006. Mike Sanders garnered his first in 2005 while Zack McKendree earned his first in 2008. In 2009, three Knights earned All-American. Heavyweight Frank McGrath qualified for his second consecutive national championship appearance and earned his first All-America honor, while 184-pounder Jacob Tazzi and Kevin McElhaney, 149, also took All-America citations for the first time. The 2010 season saw a school-record five wrestlers earn All-America awards. Corey Bowers, 133,  A.J. Milanak, 141, Kevin McElhaney, 149, 174-pounder Tony Petrella, and heavyweight Frank McGrath all posted top-eight finishes at nationals. In 2011, Zack McKendree earned his second All-America honor by finishing second in the 165-pound class. Jose Matos earned the honor during his first trip to nationals by finishing eighth at 125. Ethan Swope became a first-time All-American with a sixth-place finish at 149 in 2012. Matt Turek (125) and Zack Zelcs (184) secured all-america honors for the first time in 2013. Turek became a two-time All-American with a fourth-place finish at 125 in 2014, recording the highest finish in program history by a 125-pounder. Carmine Ciotti (125), Eric Lewandowski (157) and Nick Budd (Hwt.) became first-time All-Americans in 2017. With the NCAA championships in 2019-20 canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Wrestling Coaches Association selected its own slate of All-Americans, with Dom Means (149), Alex Farenchak (165) and Freddie Nixon (197) earning the honor. Postseason competition returned in 2020-21, as three Golden Knights earned All-America finishes at the national championships in Alex Farenchak (2nd at 165), Nick Young (6th at 157) and Jacob Dunlop (8th at 133). Nixon moved up to heavyweight in 2021-22 and became a two-time All-American, as did Nick Young and Dom Means in 2022-23. That same year Farenchak became just the third Golden Knight to earn All-Americanm honors three times, joining Paterniti and Proper. Jerry Echevarria joined the list of two-time All-Americans after earning a spot on the stand in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
