Batts Named Head Coach at USC Aiken

Former assistant coach helped Gannon to 116 wins over four-year stint

ERIE, Pa. – When the 2024-25 campaign ended Gannon women's basketball coach Cleve Wright knew he had to replace two key players in Trinitee Harris (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) and Andrea Maibach (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne). But Wright, and the Gannon program, suffered a huge loss today as assistant coach Brittany Batts was named the head coach at USC Aiken.

Most definitely Gannon's loss is USC Aiken's gain. For Batts it is a tremendous opportunity as the former Gannon standout and one of the top 3-point shooters in the program's history earns her first head coaching position. USC Aiken is a Division II institution located in Aiken, South Carolina and competes in the Peach Belt Conference.

"We could not be more excited for Brittany and this opportunity for her to lead her own program," related Wright. "We are thankful for her time here at Gannon. Her experience, leadership and love for Gannon Women's Basketball will be missed. During her time here as a player and an assistant coach she has experienced great success and we know she will take all that she has learned and do great things at USC Aiken with the women's basketball program. She will always be connected to us and we wish her the best!"

Batts competed for the Golden Knights from 2011-15, scoring 1,152 career points while appearing in 125 career games. She holds the top two season figures for three-pointers made with 102 in 2012-13 and 93 in 2013-14. She ranks second in career three-pointers made (286) and attempts (688) and is fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.416).

As impressive as her figures were as a player, she exceeded those accomplishments while sitting at the right hand of Wright. After serving as an assistant coach at Chicago State, Shepherd, Bridgewater College (Vt.) and Castleton State (Vt.), Batts returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach in the summer of 2021.

Over the next four years Batts helped the Golden Knights post a 116-22 record with appearances in the NCAA Tournament all four years, including trips to the Elite Eight in 2023-24 and again in 2024-25. Gannon won three PSAC championships in those four years. The Golden Knights finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 28-7 record after going 35-3 in 2023-24.

Along the way Batts became one of the most sought after assistant coaches in the country. She was named the 2023-24 WBCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year and this past year was selected to attend the 2025 Next Generation Institute for aspiring head coaches. The program focuses on the CEO attributes needed to lead a program and be a problem solver in the ever-changing landscape of higher education and the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics.

Batts graduated from Gannon with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management with a minor in Advertising Communication. She earned her Master's Degree in Athletic Leadership from Castleton University in 2017.
